Set up a Program Increment
Create a PI, plan milestones and dependencies across products, and track the whole increment from the portfolio view.
What you'll end up with
A Program Increment with dates, shown on every product, with its milestones, dependencies and risks tracked in one place.
Why it matters
A PI plan is usually excellent on day two and out of date by week four, because it lives on a board separate from the backlog. In Ondule the PI is a real record, so the plan you make at PI planning is the same plan your teams deliver against, and overdue dependencies surface on their own.
Before you start
- Products with objectives and milestones
- Agreed PI dates, usually 8 to 12 weeks
- PI Planning turned on for the department (a department admin can do this in department settings)
Create the PI
Open your department and go to PI Planning.
Press New PI. Fill in PI name (for example "PI 3 2026"), Start date and End date, and set Status to Upcoming or Active. Press Create PI.
Open the PI and go to Products. Press Add product for each product taking part.
Plan the increment
In Scope, press Add scope for each product. Add existing epics with Add from backlog, or plan new ones with New epic.
In Objectives, press Link objective to connect the objectives this PI serves.
In Dependencies, press Add dependency for each cross-product dependency, with an owner and due date.
In Risks & Issues, press Add item for each risk raised during planning.
When the plan is agreed, press Commit PI. Ondule keeps the committed plan as a baseline, so later changes show as scope changes.
Track it all PI long
Use the department Overview to see every product's status, next milestone and delivery progress.
Check Needs attention weekly for overdue dependencies and at-risk milestones.

Troubleshooting
A product doesn't show the current PI.
A PI belongs to one department. Check the product is in that department and has been added under the PI's Products, and that PI Planning is turned on for the department. When it's off, PI screens are hidden, but nothing is deleted.
What happens to unfinished milestones when a PI ends?
Nothing moves by itself. Review the PI's Scope and move unfinished work to the next PI, or remove it from scope. Either way, the change is recorded against the committed plan.
Can different groups run different PI dates?
Yes. Each department has its own PIs, with their own dates, and can turn PI Planning on or off separately.
